Carbon Farming Outreach Program

Start Date: May 2024

End Date: March 2026

Funding Provider: Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW)

Project Lead: Grower Group Alliance (GGA)

Aim: The Carbon Farming Outreach Program aims to build the knowledge and confidence of farmers and advisers to make informed decisions about carbon farming and emissions management. It provides independent, practical information to help integrate carbon considerations into profitable and sustainable farming systems.

Project Background: The National Industry-led Carbon Farming Outreach Program was developed to address increasing interest and uncertainty around carbon farming, emissions, and natural capital in Australian agriculture. Many growers and advisers lack access to clear, independent information to support decision-making in this rapidly evolving space.

Delivered through a national network of grower groups and supported by the Commonwealth Government, the program provides unbiased, expert-led knowledge, drawing on a national Knowledge Bank and a series of workshops, to help farmers confidently assess opportunities to measure, manage, and reduce emissions while maintaining productive farming systems.

Mingenew-Irwin Group Workshops

The Mingenew-Irwin Group (MIG) Carbon Farming Outreach workshops are part of a national, industry-led initiative delivered through the Grain Growers Association (GGA), aimed at improving grower understanding of carbon farming and natural capital. These workshops provide independent, evidence-based information to support informed decision-making, rather than promoting specific products or pathways. In a rapidly evolving space, MIG’s role is to facilitate access to credible information and create a platform for open discussion between growers, advisors, and industry experts.

The workshops respond to strong grower interest alongside ongoing uncertainty around carbon markets, measurement, legal obligations, and long-term commitments. Through a staged approach, the series builds foundational knowledge before progressing into more complex topics such as legal frameworks, greenhouse gas accounting, and supply chain requirements, helping growers better understand both the opportunities and risks involved.
